Albert Burton “Bud” Chittester, Jr. age 92, of North Boston, New York fell asleep at his home and awoke in the arms of his Savior on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017.

     Born December 19, 1924 in his grandmother’s home in Dubois, he was a son of the late Albert Chittester Sr. and Margaret Jones Chittester. 

     He attended school and spent much of his childhood and youth farming in and around Falls Creek. As soon as he turned 18, Bud enlisted in the Army Air Corp, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He served as a nose gunner during World War II in the Pacific Arena and his experiences there impacted him throughout his life.

     Upon his return home, Bud lived with his grandfather and applied for a job at the “five and dime” in DuBois.  He was hired and met a lovely young lady who was also employed there.

      On July 3,1948, he married that young lady, the former Jessie Guttridge and together they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

     Bud worked at the Pottery as a taxi driver and took whatever jobs available in order to support his family.  When the opportunity arose for a solid job with the Ford Motor Company in Buffalo, New York, Bud and his family moved to Buffalo and eventually North Boston, New York.  He was employed as a foreman for Ford until his retirement.

     Once retirement proved to be a bit boring, he took on odd jobs to keep busy.

    Bud’s Christian faith was very important to him and afforded him great hope.  He attended the Armor Bible Presbyterian Church for the past 25 years.  In his younger years, he, along with a bunch of other retired guys, loved working on various projects for the church.

    His life was cars, traveling in his motorhome and spending time with his family.

     Bud will be greatly missed by his wife, Jessie; three daughters:  Sharon Jurewicz of North Boston, New York; Sherry Bennett and her husband, Lewis, of Knox and Susan Patrone and her husband, Louis, also of North Boston, New York; nine grandchildren:  Jason Jurewicz and Jessica (Kelly) Lilienthal, all of New York; Dan (Haley) Patrone of Michigan; Andrew Patrone of New York; Amanda (Matt) Vogan of the Dominican Republic; Ashleigh, Rachel and Kayla Bennett all of Knox; three great grandchildren, Eli, Emmy and Tessa Lilienthal and a fourth great grandchild expected in June.

     Also surviving are two sisters:  Eleanor Hepler and husband, Bob and Shirley Britton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Huffman; infant brother, Leonard; In-Laws, William and Helen Guttridge; brother-in-law, Bob Britton; brothers and sisters-in-law: Shirley and Steve Spinda and Bill and Ruth Guttridge and son-in-law, David Jurewicz.

     There will be no public calling hours or funeral services. Close friends and family are invited to attend a Service of Celebration for the life of Bud Chittester at 1 p.m. Friday April 21, 2017 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc, 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox. A dinner will follow at Shaffer Evergreen Rentals, 2687 Route 208, Knox.

     Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home prior to the service by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox.

     Interment will take place at the Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
