Geraldine M. Mattern, age 84, of Emlenton, passed away Thursday morning, October 19, 2017 at the Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

    Born April 20, 1933 in Salem Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Leland and Sylvia Hartman Rhoads and was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1951.

    She married Robert Mattern and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2011.

   Gerry was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Lamartine, WELCA and the American Legion Auxiliary.

   Survivors include three children:  Robert A. Mattern, Jr. and his wife, Kelley, of Bolton, Connecticut; Ernest J. Mattern and his wife, Cindy, of Clearfield and Deborah L. Penman of Emlenton; six grandchildren:  David, Darrin, Michael, Justin, Rebecca and Nathan and two step grandchildren:  Heather and Kenny.

   Gerry is also survived by eleven great grandchildren:  Breanna, Jacob, Nicholas, Dylan, Katrina, Sean, Ava, Renee, Christian, Evelyn and Arthur; eight step great grandchildren: Myra, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Kimberlyn, Cassandra, Cayle, Christie and Chase and two step great great grandchildren, Aubree and Tyler.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; sister, Maxine and a son-in-law, David B. Penman, Sr.

    Family and friends will be received from noon to 2 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.

   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 in the Salem Lutheran Church, 2057 Route 208, Emlenton with Reverend Karen Parsh, church pastor, officiating.

    Interment will follow in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
