John Douglas Penny

     John Douglas Penny, age 66, of Shippenville, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 29, 2017 at his home following a lengthy illness.

    Born July 28, 1950 in Goodland, Kansas, he was the son of the late Dr. Lawrence Penny and Alice Cameron Penny.

    He graduated from Keystone High School in 1968.

     Doug was a welder, fabricator and farmer.  He worked for Chernicky Coal Company and Reckart Equipment.

     He married the former Andrea Allaman on June 27, 1970 and she survives.

     Doug was a member of the Shippenville United Methodist Church and attended the Salem Lutheran Church.  He served on the Shippenville Borough Council and was a member of the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club and the Venango County Draft Horse Association.

     Survivors include his wife, Andrea; two sons:  John A. Penny of Shippenville and Michael D. Penny and wife, Nicole, of Nickleville; two daughters:  Tricia Penny of Shippenville and Katie Penny of Pittsburgh and her fiancé, Markus McHenry.

    Doug is also survived by two grandchildren, Caleb and Eli Penny of Nickleville along with his canine companion, Dakota.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Clair and Lois Allaman.

     Family and friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.

    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in the Salem Lutheran Church, 2057 Route 208, Emlenton (Lamartine), with Reverend Karen Parsh, pastor of the church, officiating.

     Interment will take place in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shippenville.
