Mary L. McCoy

Mary L. McCoy, age 81, of Knox, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.
Born December 10, 1934 in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred Shrum McIlhattan.
Mary was a graduate of Keystone High School and Clarion State Teachers College. She retired from the Keystone School District, teaching 8th grade English at Keystone High School her entire career.
On July 23, 1952, in a ceremony at the family home, the late Reverend Lewis Fox performed a ceremony uniting in marriage Mary McIlhattan and Edward W. McCoy. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage, renewing their vows in 2012 before Ed's passing on March 12, 2013.
Mary was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Knox and loved to spend time with her family and friends and cheering on the Pirates.
Survivors include her children: Rob McCoy and his wife, Steph, of Turtlepoint; Marcia Vensel and her husband, Doug, of Knox and Mimi Freeman of St. Johns, Florida; Five grandchildren: Cara, Amy, George E., Leigha and Gage and four great grandchildren: Faith, Blake, Alexa and Ember; two sisters: Linda Crone and her husband, Chuck, of Knox and Barb Berlin, also of Knox and a daughter-in-law, Kim McCoy, of Venus.
Mary is also survived by her dear friends, who she thought of as family, Brian and Tammy Switzer and Kelly and Gidget Hoffman along with their children, Skyler, Jade and Devin, all of Knox.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark McCoy and her sister, Lois McCleary.
A private graveside service in the Knox Union Cemetery will be held by the family with the Reverend Karen Parsh, pastor of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating over the service.
Memorial contributions may be sent in the name of Mary L. McCoy to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1051 Twin Church Road, Knox, PA 16232.
