Norris Bill Hummel

     Norris Bill Hummel, age 81, of Knox (Wentlings Corners), passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at UPMC Northwest at Seneca.

     Born April 14, 1935, he was a son of the late Norris L. and Eva Lucille Hummel.

     He married the former Dorothy Henry on July 19, 1958 and the couple recently observed their 58th wedding anniversary.

     Bill was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Knox.

     As a young man, he was an Eagle Scout and worked at the family service station capping tires. 

    Bill worked construction and drove school bus and a rental truck for PENNDOT, plowing snow in the 1970’s before becoming disabled.

    He really enjoyed reading, weekly “mule” rides at the Henry farm, playing with his two favorite pets, Buddy and Nakita, watching the Pirates and Steelers and in years past, his son’s sporting events.

     Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; son, John and daughter, Melanie, all of Knox.

    Bill is also survived by his brother, B.  Levier Hummel and his wife, Joyce of Sligo; three brothers-in-law:  Irvin Henry and wife, Amy, of Sligo; Marvin Henry and wife, Patti, of Lake Latona, Mercer and Burl Henry and wife, Shirley, of Poughkeepsie, New York; one sister-in-law, Joan Henry of Hilton Head, South Carolina; five nieces:  Lisa Hummel, Lori Janecek, Linda McGinley, Leanne Henry and Nancy Brown and two nephews, Larry Henry and Todd Henry.

     In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Albert Henry.

     Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1051 Twin Church Road, Knox.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Church with the Reverend Karen Parsh, pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, officiating over the services.

     Interment will take place in the Knox Union Cemetery.
