Dianne Elizabeth Dean Miller, age 65, of Knox, passed away Saturday morning, February 9, 2013, following a long and courageous battle. Her family was by her bedside.

Born March 24, 1947 in Brookville, she was a daughter of the late Ernest C. and B. Jean Grube Dean.

She married Rodney Dean Miller on June 14, 1969 and he survives.

Dianne was the librarian for the Cranberry School District for 35 years. She was an avid reader and was known for reading every book in her school libraries.

She, along with her husband, developed RDM Wildbunch Whitetails and the RDM Goliath Hunting Ranch. Dianne and Rod were both members of the founding committee of The Pennsylvania Deer Farmers Association, of which she was the secretary.

She was a member of the North American Deer Farmers Association and held memberships in many out of state deer organizations.

Dianne was also a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Knox, having served on the church council and in the church library as well as teaching Bible School, Sunday School and serving on various committees within the church. She was very active in the life of the church.

She was a lifelong and avid lover of horses and an accomplished Horsewoman with a membership in the Quarter Horse Association. She also enjoyed riding with the “Horsey” Girls and attending horse shows with her granddaughters.

Dianne enjoyed working alongside her family each summer raising fawns. She loved family gatherings, playing cards and traveling to numerous islands and their beaches.

Survivors include her husband, Rod and their daughter, Vicki Lee Cotton and her husband, Jerry, of Knox; three granddaughters: Jessica, Paige and Sarah; her siblings, Nancy Banner and her husband, Ted, of Knox; James Dean and his wife, Kimberly, of Shippenville and Susan Bertozzi and her husband, Donald, of Slippery Rock.

Dianne is also survived by her mother-in-law, Ellen Miller of Knox and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, John Miller.

Family and friends will be received from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1051 Twin Church Road, Knox.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Reverend Karen Parsh, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, will officiate over the service.

Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Union Cemetery.

I'm terribly sorry to hear of Dianne's passing. She taught me everything I know about horses and strip mining. I was so glad I saw her on my last visit to Knox some years ago. She was still doing what she loved. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.
