Hugh A. Murrin, age 92, of Shippenville, died Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Shippenville. Born November 28, 1916 in Murrinsville, he was the son of Paul and Blanche Wilson Murrin. Mr. Murrin graduated from Concord Township High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1935. He is a United States Army Veteran serving as a combat engineer during World War II and was involved in the liberation of the Philippines. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a self-employed building contractor and was a charter member of the Paul W. Wood Post #7840 of Hilliards. A former member of the Shippenville-Elk Volunteer Fire Company and the Shippenville Water Authority. Survivors include two step-sons: John Bailey and his wife, Marlene of Sherman, Texas; James Bailey and his wife, Pam, of Mercer. One step daughter, Kathy Bailey of Shippenville. One brother, Don Murrin of North Washington and two sisters: Margaret Moser of Ducanville, Texas and Rose Mary Murrin of Butler. Three step-granddaughters: Martina, Tracy and Cassie. Three step grandsons: Joe, Mike and Jeff. Four step-great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Maelyn, Hanna and Christopher. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Albert, and a step-son, William Bailey. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc. in Knox. A Blessing Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Father James Bedillion will conduct the service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in the funeral home. Reverend Chris Lewis will officiate. A service with full military honors will be held at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shippenville.
