Carl Leroy Say, Sr.

December 18, 1922 ~ May 17, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old


     Carl Leroy Say, Sr., age 94, of Emlenton, passed away Wednesday morning, May 17, 2017 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.

     Born December 18, 1922 in Lamartine on the Snyder farm, he was a son of the late Orrin and Perm Snyder Say.

    Carl was a World War II United States Army veteran. He was a truck driver and prison guard serving in Scotland, France and Germany.  He was the recipient of three bronze stars.

   He married the former Margaret Louella Jackson on January 15, 1946 in the parsonage of the St. Petersburg Reformed Church.  Carl and Margaret celebrated 61 years of marriage before her death on October 30, 2007.

    Carl worked for Columbia Gas and Quaker State Refinery, retiring from Joy Manufacturing.  He painted and roofed many houses and barns, also slating roofs in his spare time.

     He attended several Church of God churches, attending the Turkey City Church of God most recently.  He served as a trustee, helped with maintenance and worked with various youth groups.

     Carl was an avid small game hunter, deer hunter and enjoyed feeding and watching the wild animals in his yard after he could no longer hunt.

    He loved gardening, raising pigs and turkeys and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Survivors include two children:  Carl Leroy Say, Jr. and his wife, Korona, of Emlenton and Priscilla Say Reisinger and her husband, George, of Callensburg; six grandchildren:  Jason Say and wife, Liza; Eric Say and wife, Sarah; Kristi Say and Jonathan Say, all of Emlenton and Shawn Bell and Mike Bell and wife, Chrissy, all of Seneca.

    Carl is also survived by six great grandchildren:  Colin Say, Addison Say, Alexander Say, Liam Say and Ella Say, all of Emlenton and Nathan Bell of Seneca.

     He will be missed by all that loved him.

     In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Misty Say Booth and Rachael Reisinger and two brothers: Floyd Say and wife, Margaret and Daniel Say.

     Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox and from 10 to 11 a.m.  Saturday, May 20, 2017 in the Turkey City Church of God, 1078 Route 338, Turkey City.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Pastor Tom Hannold officiating.

     Military honors will be accorded prior to the service by the Berlin Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox.

      Interment will follow in the St. Petersburg Cemetery.
