Cleon Miller Obituary

Cleon P. Miller, age 98 of Knox, went to be with the Lord and be reunited with his wife, while surrounded by his family, on February 25, 2026, following a period of declining health.

He was born in Oil City on June 10, 1927, to Sara Cobler Miller and Paul Miller. He attended White Memorial School until his senior year, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1945, serving in the Pacific Theater stationed at Eniwetok, one of the Marshall Islands where the A Bomb was assembled.

He married Mary Alden on August 20, 1948.

Cleon was employed for 40 years by the Knox Glass Bottle Headquarters, working in their research lab on improving glass quality and designing and building new instruments for all the glass plants in Knox, Indianapolis, and Michigan. He also processed all customer breakage complaints for legal

purposes.

He and Mary lived in Knox for many years, eventually moving to Gas City, Indiana, then to Dayville, Connecticut and then to Fenton, Michigan for technical services for all bottling customers that bought Knox's bottles.

While in Fenton, Michigan, he was active in the Lake Fenton United Methodist Church with Pastor Clifford Furness and his wife Jeri, serving on several committees and as custodian. Later he was an employee and custodian for a local tax office, before he and Mary moved back to Knox in 1998.

His hobbies were cooking, gardening, and especially woodworking, making 6 Saxon spinning wheels and a multitude of spinning birds, including hummingbirds, cardinals, and blue jays.

Surviving is a son, Brandt Miller and his wife, Roxanne (Knight); daughter, Linda (Miller) Baker and her husband, John Dee; grandson, Paul Miller and Stacey McCauley; great grandson, Bryan Miller; brother, Jack Miller and his wife, Pat, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary, after 70 years of marriage; his mother, Sara Miller Gilfillan, father, Paul Miller, a sister, and stepfather, Howard Gilfillan.

He was a proud member of the Knox American Legion Post #720 and the Ross McGinnis VFW Post #2145 of Clarion.

The family wishes to thank his special friends, Barb and Gary, the St. Paul's Lutheran and Knox United Methodist Soup Ministries, and especially the VNA Hospice Care Team and his caregivers.

At his request, there will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc, 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.

Military honors will also be accorded at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home, by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox.

Memorial donations in the name of Cleon P. Miller may be made to the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214 (cfvna.org) or the Knox United Methodist Church, 9729 Route 338, Knox, PA 16232, where he was a life-long member.
