Denver Delroy Campbell “Delroy”, age 96, passed into the presence of his Savior on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Laurelbrooke Landing Nursing Home in Brookville, PA
Delroy was born on June 19, 1928 in Widnoon, PA to Claire Smith and Olive Irene (Bish) Campbell. He grew up in St. Charles, PA and graduated from Porter Township High School in 1947.
On December 24, 1946, Delroy married Lois Claire Cathcart of Climax, PA where they resided until 1979 when they relocated to Massillon, OH. Due to declining health, Delroy recently returned to reside in New Bethlehem, PA.
Delroy was a caring and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He diligently provided for his family for many years as a laborer and supervisor in the brick manufacturing industry, as well as in the fields of construction and maintenance. His determination, resourcefulness and mechanical skills were assets throughout his career.
Following retirement, Delroy traveled extensively with his wife, including a memorable trip to Japan and numerous trips to the west coast to visit family. Never one to remain idle, Delroy continued to perform odd jobs and serve others well into his 90’s. In his retirement, he learned to use a weaving loom on which he made countless rag rugs. It gave him immense satisfaction to share his rugs with family and friends. Delroy was an active member of Canal Fulton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. His knowledge and understanding of the Bible were clearly evident in the life he lived.
Delroy dearly loved and supported his family. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Robert D. Campbell (Debra) of Silverdale, WA, Jack N. Campbell (Fran) of Cedarville, OH, Benjamin J. Campbell (Cindy) of New Bethlehem, PA, and his favorite daughter, Susan Pope Kelly (Lake) of Winchester, KY; 12 grandchildren, including Stephanie McCoy, Joshua Campbell, Lizze Frank, Jessica Christianson, Christopher Campbell, Shannah Hogue, Karen Dietry, Hannah Jenkins, Joel Pope, Shelby Sacks, Hunt Pope, and Morgan Pope; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Delroy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 73 years, Lois; his sister; and 2 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service chapel, 233 Penn St., New Bethlehem, PA, and for one hour preceding the celebration of life service planned for Monday, February 24, at 11am at Oakland Church of God, 122 Kohlersburg Rd., Distant, PA. The service will be officiated by Rev. Whitney Owens, pastor of Canal Fulton Baptist Church, Canal Fulton, OH.
Interment will be in the Squirrel Hill Cemetery in New Bethlehem, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
