Diane L. “Sue” Shreffler, age 71, of Snively’s Corners (Emlenton), passed away on Wednesday morning, July 31, 2024, at The Caring Place in Franklin following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 7, 1953, in Lamartine, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Ruth Barlett Sanders.
She attended Keystone High School in Knox and graduated in 1971.
Diane married Charles “Dick” Shreffler on November 16, 1974, who preceded her in death in 2021.
She spent forty-two years working for numerous banks in Clarion. She survived multiple bank mergers during those years and retired from PNC Bank in 2015. Many will remember her as one of the best tellers they ever knew. She cared about her customers and worked hard to help each one.
Diane was known for her perfect sugar cookies, which she baked and gave away by the dozens. She loved God’s creation and always enjoyed a sunny summer day, a beautiful fall, or a nice rain for the crops. She could drive any tractor, big or small, and kept every property mowed beautifully.
She loved her horses and cared for many dogs, cats, and chickens over the years. She named them, loved them, and knew each one’s personality and special needs.
As her extended “people” family continued to grow, every child received a plastic shopping bag of coloring books, paint books, and supplies when Aunt Diane was around.
She took exceptional care of her husband Dick when he had health issues, helping him with his speech therapy and memory after his stroke. They enjoyed taking rides to amusement parks, apple orchards, county fairs, car shows, and anywhere else together. People of Lamartine will remember Diane riding on her yellow “bicycle built for two!”
Survivors include her stepson, Rich “Dick” Shreffler and Becky; granddaughters: Alix, Haddie and Livia Shreffler; brothers: Gary Sanders and Dale “Chip” Sanders; sisters-in-law: Kathy Sanders and Audene Sanders; brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Detar; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is survived by many relatives in the Shreffler family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and John Sanders; a sister, Louisa Detar; a sister-in-law, Norma Sanders, and a nephew, Bruce Sanders.
The family thanks the staff of The Caring Place and Asera Care Hospice for their kindness and support during this difficult time.
Per Diane’s request, there will be no visitation or services at this time.
