Dorothy J. (Johnston) Copenhaver

     Dorothy J. “Dot” Copenhaver, age 93 of New Bethlehem, passed away early Friday morning, July 3, 2026, at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital following a brief period of declining health.

     Born March 17, 1933, in Negley, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd Earl Johnston and Bertha Lavina Courson Johnston.

     She married James E. “Bo” Copenhaver on May 29, 1952, and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2001.

    Dot worked for Sylvania and Brookville Glove, also owned and operated Copie’s Tasty Freeze and Esso Service Station, along with her husband and father-in-law.

    She loved camping and traveling with her husband and friends. And enjoyed the many places she visited and experiences from her travels with “Bo” for his work, the Panama Canal modernization project and Niagara Power Plant construction to name a few.

     Dot is survived by her sister, Norma Schrecengost of New Bethlehem and numerous nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Betty Smith, Judy George and James Johnston.

     Family and friends will be received from 6-8 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Don Jeffers officiating.

     Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Distant, Armstrong County.
