Edgar Allen “Ed” Kline, age 90 of Knox, was born July 23, 1935, on the family farm, in Washington Township, Clarion County, to Andrew and Ruth (Wagner) Kline. He passed away Friday morning, February 13, 2026, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
He started school in a one-room schoolhouse in Strobleton, walking a mile from home to school. He graduated from Farmington High School. After graduation, Ed worked for his uncle as a bricklayer until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1955. He served for two years in Army aviation at Ft. Lewis, Washington.
Ed married the former Carol Thomas on June 1, 1963, and they lived in Hydetown, just north of Titusville, where they raised their four children – Patty, Tom, Jack and Buddy.
Upon his discharge from the Army, Ed attended barber school in Johnstown. He owned and operated a barber shop for more than 25 years in a shop attached to their Hydetown home.
Ed then went to work for Quaker State Oil out of Titusville and later transferred to the refinery in Emlenton and moved to Knox. He retired in 1999.
He was always good with his hands and enjoyed building things. He used his brick-laying skills to build a couple of editions on their Hydetown home. He and another barber built a log cabin near Townville, complete with a pond, a stone fireplace, and an indoor waterfall.
Ed enjoyed hunting and gardening. He especially liked woodworking, building many gun cabinets, porch swings and various other items.
In his retirement, he began restoring old tractors, favoring the Minneapolis Moline.
He was a hard worker, a life-long Mason and a member of the Edenberg Lodge #550 of Knox. He was also a member of the NRA and the PA Rifle & Pistol Association.
Ed placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Saviour and he and Carol were active and instrumental members of the Methodist Church in both Hydetown and Knox.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; 4 children: Patty Lingle of Clearfield; Thomas Kline of Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada; Jack Kline of Pittsburgh, and Buddy Kline of West Middlesex; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and his brothers, Roger and Willard Kline.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kline.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Knox United Methodist Church, 9729 Route 338, Knox.
The Edenburg Lodge #550 of Knox will honor their departed brother at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday in the church.
Military honors will be accorded at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 19, 2026, in the church, by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox.
Funeral services will immediately follow, in the church, with Reverend Wade Barto, pastor of the Knox United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will take place in the Union Cemetery in Crawford County.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc. of Knox.
