Edwin Wagner Obituary

Edwin A. Wagner, age 87 of Tionesta, passed away after a period of declining health on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Oil City Healthcare.

He was born at home on May 10,1937 at the Wagner homestead in Newmansville. He was the son of the late Alvin Wagner and Elsie Stewart Wagner.

Edwin married his high school sweetheart, Janice Johnson, on June 6, 1959 who survives and was his true partner for the last 66+ years, doing everything together since being married...well, except watching her Hallmark movies.

He was a self-employed farmer his entire life and lumberjack for Schmader Lumber in Lucinda for over 50 years, and a long-time community friend to the Amish and all the local farmers.  If you knew Edwin, you certainly had a long conversation with him at some point.  He loved to talk your ear off and tell stories!  He would have given the shirt off his back for anyone in need.  He was a simple man with a big heart who always felt it was perfectly okay to wear his heart on his sleeve and show his emotions of caring and sadness and said, “If your eyes are watering, your head won’t swell!”

Edwin was a lifelong member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Venus, where he was active in the choir and many church activities.  He loved singing with that bass voice of his and harmonizing with any song he heard.  He lived his faith every day treating everyone how he would want to be treated. Edwin’s greatest achievement in life was being a dad and a Papa.  More than anything, he enjoyed attending all his granddaughter’s activities where he always cheered her on with a proud smile and heart. She was the pride and joy of his retired life.

Edwin graduated from Farmington/North Clarion High School. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Association and was also a Washington Township supervisor for many years.

He is survived by one son, David A. Wagner and his wife Jodi, and a granddaughter, Maddie Wagner, all of Cranberry, and one sister, Dorothy Baumgardner Braunegg of Conyngham, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wade “Smokey” Wagner, and a sister, Marian Amsler.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2024 at the Faller/Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 19200 Route 208, Fryburg, PA.     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 1759 County Line Road, Venus, with Pastor Jeffrey Piccirilli officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree as Edwin loved his trees, send memorials to Faith Lutheran Church PO Box 75 Venus, PA 16364 or to Empowering Partners Inc, a Haiti mission to teach, employ, and lift the impoverished at https://empoweringpartners.org.
