Elizabeth (Liz) Rogers Baltzer, age 97, passed away July 2, 2020, at Masonic Village in Sewickley, PA.
She was born January 5, 1923, in Cooperstown, PA, the eldest child of Mary Rebecca Maul and Edward McCracken Rogers.
In 1944, Liz completed her training as a nurse at Oil City Hospital and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. She would go on to work at several naval hospitals during World War II.
After the end of World War II, Liz completed her bachelor degree in nursing at the University of Pittsburgh. Time in Pittsburgh led to a meeting with William W. (Bill) Baltzer while they were both completing their educations.
Liz and Bill married on Sept. 9, 1949, in Cooperstown, PA. They called many places home including Knox, PA, Sewickley, PA, Clarksburg, WV, Henrietta, OK, Bridgeport, WV, Pittsburgh, PA, and Oil City, PA.
Liz and Bill had 3 children - Carolyn Giberson of Gainesville, GA, Rebecca Walther (Robert) of Churchville, NY, and Gerald Baltzer of Pittsburgh, PA. Other survivors include grandsons Alexander Walther, Joshua Walther, and Mark Walther as well as her brother Vernon Rogers of Ridgeway, PA. Liz loved to fish, travel with Bill, cook new recipes, play bridge, follow the Pitt Panthers in football, and especially dachshunds!
The family requests memorial donations be sent to an organization of your choice that reminds you of Liz. Due to Covid-19, services will be planned for Spring 2021.
