Florabell Evelyn Best/Niederriter age 91 of Shippenville, passed away Wednesday morning, March 5, 2025 at her home following an illness.
Born September 29, 1933 in Millerstown, Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Ray Fescenmyer and Flo Lechner Fescenmyer and graduated from Shippenville High School in 1952.
She married Homer “Jack” Best on July 4, 1953 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1998. She then married John “Jack” Niederriter on September 6, 2001 and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2005.
In earlier years Florabell worked at Ken and Ruth’s Restaurant in Shippenville, and G.C. Murphy “the 5 and 10” in Clarion where she made 35 cents an hour and was able to buy her brothers comic books for 10 cents apiece, sometimes spending her entire check.
She also worked for Owens-Illinois and in 1965 became an independent contractor transporting IU6 students, which she continued for 31 years
Florabell was a member of the St. Michael Church in Fryburg for her entire life and had been attending Immaculate Conception in Clarion as of late. She was a member of the former Shippenville-Elk Township Ladies Auxiliary; St. Michael Rosary Society; Erie Diocesan Cursillo Movement; Clarion YMCA Silver Sneakers, and a member of several bowling teams. She loved to play 500.
She was a former member of the Shippenville Civic Club; former council member on Board of Elections and Judge of Elections and volunteered for Clarion Vocational Services and October Fest and was a confirmation sponsor for May.
Florabell enjoyed crocheting, making several blankets. She also enjoyed camping, going to the casinos, cooking for the family, and having her grandchildren come for a visit.
In 2015 she experienced her 1st motorcycle ride, 1st Semi truck ride and 1st trip to Benezette and in 2016 hosted great grandson Will’s graduation party.
Survivors include son, Ken (Chrystal) Best of Umatilla, Florida; daughter, Kathleen Glosser of Shippenville, and five grandchildren: Michael (Katie) Cotherman, Brad (Candice Goleman) Best, Zachary (Aniese) Best, Tiffany (Tiny) Buterbaugh and Tannya (Rob) Best.
Florabell is also survived by 12 great grandchildren: Will (Brittany), Zoey, Zariah, Zuri, Walker, Brayden, Briella, Gage, Kaylob, Dylan, Casen and Maria; five great great grandchildren: Wesley, Kara, Jaci, Dawsin and Alton, and a sister, Judy Wiant of Marble.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin “Peach” Best in August of 2024; a son-in-law, Larry Glosser; two brothers and their wives: Ray and Darlene Fescenmyer
and Joe and Dot Fescenmyer, and a brother-in-law, Robert Wiant, Jr.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Faller/Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 19200 Route 208, Fryburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 715 E. Main Street, Clarion. Father Monty Sayers, parish priest, will serve as celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Fryburg.
