Gary Manuel Truitt, Sr., age 86, of Kittanning, passed away Friday afternoon, May 22, 2026, at the VA Community Living Center in Butler.
Born at home in Widnoon, Armstrong County, on September 28, 1939, he was the son of the late Thomas Manuel Truitt and Helen Grace Miller Truitt.
He married the former Betty Pyska on May 22, 1964, in the Gospel Tabernacle at New Kensington. She survives.
Gary was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving from December of 1959 to December of 1963, and was a long-time resident of Lower Burrell and New Kensington, eventually moving to Kittanning.
He was self-employed as the owner/operator of Freeport Floor and Wall Covering, serving the area from 1976 to December 2004.
Through the years, Gary attended the Baptist Church of New Kensington, New Kensington Gospel Tabernacle, Freeport Gospel Tabernacle/Evangel Heights Assembly of God, Faith Chapel, and Cornerstone Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Gary Truitt, Jr. and his wife, Cathy of Kittanning; grandsons: Gary Truitt, III and wife, Crystal, of Kittanning, and Levi Truitt and wife, Trista, of New Bethlehem; great granddaughters: Ivy Elizabeth Truitt, Abbygail Rose Truitt, Evelyn Louise Truitt, all of Kittanning and Jailyn Olivia Abate-Truitt of New Bethlehem, and great grandsons, Braiden Homer Truitt of New Bethlehem and Thomas Manuel Truitt of Kittanning.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Truitt States.
Family and friends will be received from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday May 26, 2026, at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Walter W. Craig American Legion post #354 of New Bethlehem, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will immediately follow with Reverend John Phillips of the United Family Ministries officiating.
Interment will follow in the Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery.
