Harold Bowser Obituary

      A private memorial service will be held outside for Harold R. “Bud” Bowser will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday October 9, 2021 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.

    Harold R. Bud Bowser, born in Kittanning, PA January 21, 1927 to the late Lloyd Harlan and Sadie Toy Bowser, passed away May 3, 2011.

      An intermodal trucking pioneer, Mr. Bowser introduced containerization to Ryder Ranger Inc. and was one of the company’s Top Agents as Owner & President of Shelmont, Inc. throughout the 1970s and 80s.

    Mr. Bowser lived a wonderful life and had many passions. A stock car racer in his youth and Golden Glove boxing champion in Pennsylvania, he attended the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and served in the US Air Force during World War II. Mr. Bowser was a licensed yacht captain and pilot, enjoyed success in the standard-bred horse racing business, and was an avid golfer, participating in tournaments from his beloved Selva Marina Country Club, to the famed St. Andrews in Scotland with his friends and colleagues. Mr. Bowsers generosity and character made a lasting difference in the life of so many. His sharp wit and good humor will be missed by all who knew him.

     Mr. Bowser is survived by his wife of 50 years, Viola T. Bowser (now deceased), his brothers and sisters Richard Bowser (Ruth) (now deceased), Geraldine Donahue (Bob), David Bowser (Nancy), Eileen Schroth and Sarah Bowser. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Harold R. Buddy Bowser Jr. (Debra), Leslee Burch (Bob), Brian Bowser, Michele Carroll, Nina Rowan, stepsons Monty Chapman, Jr. and William Bill Chapman (deceased), 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson
