Helen Niederriter Obituary

Helen Niederriter, age 91 of Lucinda, passed away August 10, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy illness.

Born on March 19, 1934 in New Bethlehem, she was the daughter of James and Zoe McMaster Kuhns and is the last surviving member of the Kuhns family.

She graduated from Redbank High School in 1952, graduated from Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1956.

Helen was married on December 19, 1955 to Joseph Niederriter Sr. who preceded her in death in 1999.

She was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg and was previously an active member in the Rosary Society. She worked at Owens Illinois in Medical Department and Clarion Hospital until she retired. She also was a Clarion Hospital volunteer.

Helen enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, gardening, embroidery, and reading

Surviving are nine children; Jana (Mike) Wolbert of Crown, Joe (Mary Beth) Niederriter of Lucinda, Mike (Sue) Niederriter of Pittsburgh, Diane (Ron) Burkhardt of Leeper, Carol Niederriter of Lucinda, Patty (Kenny) Gilbert of Leeper, Mary (Scott) Rearick of Ninevah, Ginger (Ty) Duncan of Oil City, and Lori (Steve) Martin of Rocky Grove. Also surviving are 23 Grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in January 1999, three brothers: John, William, and Joe Kuhns, three sisters: Mildred Craig, Dorothy Wells, and Norma Kyler.

Friends will be received at St. Michaels Church in Fryburg on August 28, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the St. Michael’s Cemetery following the service.
