James Donald Thompson Jr., age 80 of Knox, passed away Friday morning, December 6, 2024 at his Home.
Born August 31, 1944 in Canonsburg, he was the son of the late James D. Thompson Sr. and Erma Jean Pollock Thompson.
James married Joanne Lee Guntrum on July 11, 1968.
He was a 1962 graduate of Keystone High School and was a member of Mt Joy United Methodist Church in Knox.
James worked at Knox Glass for 20+ years until its closure, then worked as a fork lift operator at the Knox Box Factory. He also worked for various restaurants in the area.
He was a member of the Clarion Rod & Gun Club, The Fryburg Sportsman’s Club, and was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Thompson; Three Children; Stacy (Dave) Hollis of Leeper, Scott (Miwa) Thompson of North Charleston, SC., Jamie (John White) Thompson of Knox. Three siblings; Tom Thompson of Knox, Terry (Regina) Thompson Sr. of Knox, Barb (Gary) Rhoades of Knox; a brother-in-law, Dave Weaver of Kossuth, Two sisters in law, Dorothy Renfrew of Knox, Joyce Martin of Sandy Lake.
Also survived by Two grandchildren; Samantha (Tony Bish) Montgomery of Knox, Zachary Hovis of Clarion; One Great Granddaughter, Luna Montgomery of Knox, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Melanie Lynn Thompson, Four sisters; Donna (Bill) Pollock, Deb Weaver, Bev Thompson, Tammy Thompson; a brother; David Thompson; Brother-in-law; John Renfrew; Sister-in-law; Nancy Thompson; a nephew; Terry Thompson Jr.; Two Nieces; Pam Lightner, and Gwendolyn Thompson.
Family and friends will be received from 2 - 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.
Funeral services will immediately follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Ron Hunsberger officiating. Internment will take place at the Cedarview Memorial Park.
