Jean Shirley (Kammerdiener) Karns

Jean Shirley (Kammerdiener) Karns, age 93 of New Bethlehem, passed away on June 27, 2025 at the Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville. 

     She was born in Kittanning on August 12, 1931 and was a daughter of the late Arthur Kammerdiener and Lottie Gould Kammerdiener Houser.

      Jean was a graduate of Kittanning High School. She then married John W. Karns in 1952.

     She is survived by her husband; two sons: Larry (Marta) Karns of Charlottesville, VA and Alan (Joan) Karns of Erie; five grandchildren: Scott, Steven, Michael, Jonathan, and William, and six great-grandchildren: Lilly, Clare, Lucy, Olive, Nisa and Trinidad.

    Jean was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew Karns, and two sisters: Betty Karns and June Costa.

    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem. Reverend Jimmy Swogger will officiate.

     Interment was in the New Bethlehem Cemetery.
