John Edwin (Eddie) McSparrin

     John Edwin “Eddie” McSparrin, age 76, of New Bethlehem, passed away Friday evening, October 19, 2018 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.

     Born February 11, 1942 in New Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Paul Edwin McSparrin and Twila Esther Anthony McSparrin.

     Eddie graduated from Redbank Valley High School in 1961.

    On October 13, 1964, in Clarion, he married the former Lucy Montana and she preceded him in death on April 3, 1999.

      Eddie worked for Charles A. McCauley Trucking for 11 years before buying a truck and starting his own trucking business, John E. McSparrin Trucking Co., which he owned and operated for 30 years before retiring in January 2000.

     He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem and was instrumental in starting the Knights of Columbus Council #8538. Eddie was a member and served as Charter Grand Knight from 1984-1986.  He was District Deputy #55 for 2 terms and Faithful Navigator of St. Martin of Tours Assembly, Brockway, for 2 terms.

    Eddie achieved Expert Marksman status and was a member of the NRA.  He enjoyed hunting and working with guns.

     Survivors include two sons: Brian P. McSparrin of New Bethlehem and Michael J. McSparrin and his wife, Melissa, of Clarion and a sister, Bonnie Weaver and her husband, Jerry, of Concord Township, Ohio.

     Eddie is also survived by a very special friend, Mary Talarigo, of Hawthorn.

     In addition to his parents and wife, Eddie was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Hetrick; niece, Cherie Hoover and a nephew, Rick Hetrick.

     A Christian Vigil Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in the funeral home.

     Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

     Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018 in the St. Charles Catholic Church, 201 Washington Street, New Bethlehem. Father Samuel Bungo, parish priest, will serve as celebrant.

     The Knights of Columbus including the 4th Degree Honor Guard, will perform honors at the church.

     Interment will follow at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in New Bethlehem.
