L. Claire (Shook) Wiant

May 2, 1924 ~ August 24, 2021 (age 97) 97 Years Old

L. Wiant Obituary

     L. Claire Wiant formerly of Star Route, Meadville, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 after a period of declining health at the age of 97.  She had been a resident of Juniper Village for the past two years.

      She was born May 2, 1924 in New Kensington to Milford A. and Glenna V. Weeter Shook.  She graduated from New Kensington High School in 1943.

     Claire married Fred N. Wiant September 28, 1944 in New Kensington.  He preceded her in death August 15, 1976.

      In 1948, Fred and Claire moved to Meadville where he operated the Fair View Dairy Farm.  Claire attended the Meadville Market House where she sold plants in the spring, fruits and vegetables in the summer and apples and syrup in the fall and winter until she retired in 1997.  She also worked at the Salvation Army store and went to the Flea Market in Andover.

     Claire enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and collecting coins.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Daniel Wiant; her brothers, Richard and William Shook; her grandson, Jeffrey Moyer; and her sons-in-law, William Snow, Lyle Loucks, and Joseph Rossi.

    She is survived by her daughters, Audrey Snow of Leesburg, FL; Kathy Loucks of Linesville; Jean Wiant (Fred Smith) of Glenolden, PA; Gail Lilly (Charles) of Sarasota, FL; and Laurie Rossi of Meadville.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Kim Purdy (Douglass), Mark Moyer, Leah Loucks (Ed Ferris), Renee Stewart (Joe), Kyle Loucks (Chris Helfer), Kevin Loucks (Suni), Ashley Floyd (Kelvin), Nathan Agner (Caren Lyons), Jeremy Lilly, Cassandra Cruz (Tony), Adam Rossi (Jennifer), and Andrea Sandberg (David); many step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and one great-great-grandchild due in the fall.  She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Moore (Dennis) of Virginia; her sister-in-law, Vivian Shook of North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

      A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

     Burial will be at Squirrel Hill Cemetery in New Bethlehem, PA.

    Donations may be made to Juniper Village Employee Fund, 455 Chestnut St., Kindred Hospice, 1119 Park Ave., Suite 7, or the American Cancer Society, 505 Poplar St., Suite 310, all of Meadville, PA 16335.
