Jean Brothers, age 96 of Knox, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024.
She was the 4th child of the Reverend E. C. and Martha McPherran Courtney and the last surviving member of her birth family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James B. Brothers.
Having been born in the parsonage of Grace E.C. Church in Ninevah, Jean was blessed to be the oldest member of that congregation. Over the years, until her decline in health, she served as church organist, choir director, Sunday School teacher and Bible study leader.
Jean loved music and for many years was the areas “go to” wedding soloist. She also sang in several trios and quartets that included her husband, Jim.
She is survived by four generations of loving family, including daughters: Sherry (Scott) Keefer and Cindy Witmer; three grandchildren include: Shanelle (Christopher) Ensminger, Shona (Ivan) Stanish and Joshua (Lisa) Witmer; great grandchildren include: Addison Shick, Mckenna (Chaese) Vaudrin, Kelson Stanish, Mira Stanish, and step greats, Kaden, Kolten and Camden Ensminger. The three great great grands are Clay, Phoenix and Creed.
Being legally blind, Jean had lost sight of her earthly surroundings but never lost sight of her Heavenly home. She is rejoicing there now with Jesus, where God has finally welcomed her with “well done my good and faithful servant”. Matthew 25:21, 23.
A sincere thank you to the 3rd floor staff at Oakwood Heights Village for their kind and loving care of our loved one.
There will be no formal services. The family will gather to celebrate Jean’s life at a later date.
