Mary Nick Obituary

Mary Arlene Nick, age 80, of Lucinda, passed away Tuesday evening, April 18, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at AHN Hospital in Wexford.

Born May 8, 1942, in Clarion, she was a daughter of the late George J. Hepfl and Martha I. Swartzfager Hepfl and was a graduate of Clarion Area High School.

She married the love of her life, Ron Nick on May 5, 1962, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion. They enjoyed over 60 years together.

Through the years Mary worked at the Park Diner, Owens-Illinois, the Wolf’s Den Restaurant, where she was known for her Texas Sheet Cake, and she retired from the Clarion Hospital where she was known for her no bake cookies.

She attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fryburg and was a past member of the Monroe Community Club where the members were like family.

Mary enjoyed being outside in her many flower gardens, family get togethers, playing euchre and was a very competitive Corn Hole champion.

She had an unmatched quick wit, contagious laughter, and was always the life of the party.

Mary loved cooking and baking, watching the deer and birds off their back porch, and watching Ron operate his machinery.  She enjoyed attending her mini class reunions with her Clarion classmates up until she suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2020.

She knew endless hard work, had great strength, and had a special love for her children, grandchildren, and her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Ron; two daughters: Cathi (Greg) Wenner of Knox and Jayne Nick of Shippenville; one son, John (Jen) Nick of Venus; three grandchildren: Kelsey Nick of Hermitage, Dylan Nick of Shippenville, and Kirsten Wenner of Hollidaysburg, and great granddaughter, Kinley Rose Wenner, also of Hollidaysburg.

Mary is also survived by her sister, Rita Reed of Clarion and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters: Bet (Ed) Wolbert, Gerry (Bob) Griebel, Pauline “Squeak” (Jim) Stiglitz, Monia (Steve) Reed and Helen Sandra; seven brothers: Charles (Betty) Hepfl, Walter (Marion) Hepfl, Don (Dolly) Hepfl, Bernard “Joe” Hepfl and Jimmy, George and Tommy.

Mary was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Joe Reed.

Family and friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 112 Rectory Lane, Lucinda.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, in the church, with Father Michael Polinek, parish priest, serving as celebrant.
