Rita Ann Ochs, age 81 of Lucinda, passed away from natural causes on Friday, July 12, 2024 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
She was born at home in Lucinda on June 19, 1943, to Martin and Velma Glosser.
Rita married the love of her life, Harold Ochs, on May 25, 1963 at the St. Mary’s Church in Crown.
She is survived by her loving son, Eric (Brianne) Ochs and their three children, Jillian, Jacoby and Jayleigh, as well as her dear sister, Evelyn (Lawrence) Schmader and brother-in-law, Edward Steiner, all of Lucinda.
Rita is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ann (John) Slike of Apollo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Ochs, and sister-in-law, Miriam Steiner.
During her working years, Rita was employed at Ray’s Corners in Shippenville and had many great stories to tell. After Ray’s closing, she became a bookkeeper for Charles Tool and Supply until retiring at the age of 72.
Rita was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, great aunt and godmother. She was an avid reader and always had her head in a book. When she wasn’t reading books, she was doing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper.
She enjoyed putting puzzles together, as well as watching sports on TV, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. As much as she loved those things, baking breads, cookies, pies, and cakes, all from scratch, was her niche and everyone looked forward to it. Every night, Rita loved to play along with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She even kept her own score and wrote down the questions she missed.
Rita’s life was filled with love and compassion for those around her. She had a huge heart and enjoyed sending out cards to people to let them know she was thinking about them. Raising a boy alone is not for the faint of heart, but she did so, and opened her door to many of her son’s friends. Most of which still call her “Mom” to this day.
Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the St. Joseph Church, 84 Rectory Lane, Lucinda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, in the church, with Father Cory Pius, Parochial Vicar, serving as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rita’s name to St. Joseph Church, P.O. Box 9, Lucinda, PA 16235 or Aiden’s Army, 27284 Route 66, Lucinda, PA 16235
