Sebastian L. "Sebby" Spanedda, 97, of Seminole, passed away at home, on May 18, 2024, in Seminole. He was born on February 18, 1927, in Seminole.
Sebby was a proud member of the US Navy, based in Brooklyn, NY, Hudson Yards during WWII. After his military service, he had a brief career in the coal mines before becoming a skilled welder at Pullman Standard in Butler until the plant closed.
Sebby was known for his congenial attitude, happy disposition, and ease of conversing with anyone he met. He enjoyed watching Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins games, playing blackjack, and tending to his vegetable garden. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his son Tom, and son-in-law Joe and their extended family members. He also cherished keeping in touch with his lifelong neighbors, beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Sebby is survived by his son, Tom, and son-in-law, Joe, (Hostetler) of Pittsburgh, his brother, Anthony (Tony) of New Jersey, and his sister-in-law, Lillian (Babe) Bachorski of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, his son Dennis, his brother John, his sister Kathryn, his mother Elizabeth, and father Anthony.
In addition, the family is especially grateful to Rose Stepulla, who volunteered alternative housing arrangements for Sebby. Their long-term friendship was instrumental during his final year of his life.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date in June at the St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem, where Sebby was a member. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in memory of Sebastian to the St. Charles Church, 201 Washington Street, New Bethlehem, PA 16242
