William Russell “Bill” Best, 74 of Kossuth, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024
Born August 29, 1950 in Oil City, he was a son of the late Homer J. Best and Sara E. Eisenhuth Best. He grew up in Wentlings Corners, Clarion County and attended Keystone High School.
He married the former Dolly Dee “DeeDee” Culp on May 2, 1969 and she survives.
Bill was an avid reader of Louis L’Amour western novels and western movies. He also enjoyed auctions, flea markets, Winston Cup races and spending time with family and friends.
He worked for Sportspal Canoe up until its closing and then was employed by Timberline Box factory for 29 years. He retired from the maintenance department of Sugar Valley Lodge, and after retirement worked for several years as a Camp Host in Tionesta, where he made many lifelong friends.
Survivors include his wife, “DeeDee” two sons: William Michael “Mike” Best and his wife, Shelly, of Franklin and Toby Allen Best and his wife, Taryn, of Emlenton.
Bill is also survived by twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by four brothers: Jack Best, Chuck Best, Hez Best and Jay Best and two sisters, Wanda Brocious and Betty Lou Huffman.
Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.
Funeral Services will immediately follow at 12 p.m. Saturday, in the funeral home, with Reverend Wade Barto officiating.
Interment will take place in the Knox Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to a charity organization of one’s choice.
