Janet K. Hanna , age 98, of Knox, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 26, 2016 at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

    Born January 28, 1918 in Venus, she was a daughter of the late Harry P. and Olive Detar Kahle.  She attended grade school in Pinegrove Township, Venango County and graduated in 1935 from the Edenburg High School in Knox.  She also attended Welsch’s Business College in Oil City.

     Janet worked as secretary to the owner of an insurance agency in Oil City.

     She studied piano under various teachers and taught piano and organ for many years.  Her object in teaching was always to glorify her Lord, whom she accepted and loved from her childhood.

    In 1947, Janet married Reverend James Hanna, who preceded her in death in March 2002.  The couple would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in May of 2002.

     She served with her husband in Methodist pastorates in Western Pennsylvania and together they had a teaching and ministry centered in Biblical truth.  Music was a big part of their God given witness.

     Janet was a member of the Methodist Church and later the Tionesta Alliance Church, where she was organist and choir director.  Upon residing in Knox, she was a faithful attender and pianist at the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah.

    Survivors include a niece, Barbara Baker and her husband, Harold, of Knox; nephews:  Doug Kapp of Pottstown; Glen and Greg Kapp of Stroudsburg; Tom and Bob Dunn of Gilbert, Arizona and a great niece, Lanea Burns and her husband, Don and their daughters, Jennifer and Emily, also of Knox.

   She is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Kapp of Stroudsburg.

    Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, 2561 Grace Church Road, Knox.

     Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in the church with the Reverend Rick Osberg, pastor at Grace E.C. Church, officiating.

     Interment will follow in the Venus Cemetery.

     Memorial contributions may be given in the name of Janet K. Hanna to the Grace E.C. Church, 2561 Grace Church Road, Knox, PA  16232
