William N. Smith, age 75, of Deal Island, Maryland and formerly of New Bethlehem, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, Maryland.

      Born August 3, 1941 in DuBois, he was a son of the late Cecil Kline.

     William graduated from Redbank Valley High School in 1960. In February 1961 he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and then in Mississippi. His overseas duties included three years at Kaiserslautern Air Base where he met his future bride, Christina Foch. They married in Germany and returned to Dover Air Force Base where he completed his duties in 1965. They stayed in the Delaware and Maryland area after marriage. 

     He is survived by one brother, Richard Smith, of Fairmount City, and his family.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Christina, in 1994; his mother, Cecil, in 1991 and his stepfather, Melvin Lobaugh, in 1994 and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

    Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Oakland Church of God, 122 Kohlersburg Road, Distant, with Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating.

     Arrangements are under the direction of the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service of New Bethlehem.
